Market Square Documentary Blog

Pre-Production

On the 26th January i pitched my idea for my documentary to my group. I explained that I am going to be doing my documentary on events that occur on the market square, I am concentrating on the German Market, the big wheel and the outdoor ice rink. I started thinking about all this on 10th December.

The week commencing Tuesday the 20th January, I went to the Market Square to produce a recce report to see were the best possible shots were when filming. Also, to see important information such as transport, camera/sound, food and lighting issues.
I also constructed a risk assessment on potential hazards around the Market Square. This prevented me from damaging expensive equipment and myself.

The 2nd march I produce a shooting script with laid out step by step what was happening in my documentary. Such as the Narration, Visual and sound. I produced story boards as well to show the different shots I was going to include in my documentary. I constructed a production schedule to show the pacific dates and time im going to be working on this documentary

Production

On the 24th February I began shooting on my documentary. The shooting period lasted for about three weeks were i managed to get different shots types of the market square. These were shots such as time lapse, LS, MS and CU. Also, I managed to get interviews to improve my documentary.

Post-Production

On the 12th march i had completed all my pre-production and my production i was ready to start editing. First thing i did was capturing all my footage and saved it to the server. Now I started to edit all my work.

The beginning of my documentary started with a time lapse of the whole market square which went into interviews. Because I couldn’t get any footage of the Outdoor ice rink and the German market, I had to use pictures. This was still effective but it would have been much better with actual footage.

Using Soundtrack Pro i created my own music that went with my documentary. The music was a guitar and reggae beat. I think the music went really well and just finished of my documentary

Assignment 2.4

Animation Review

My Animation ident consists of 3 green balls that shake rapidly with yellow outer lines that form together to create one ball.  While my animation is doing this, the yellow outlines increase in size and begin the fade out. As the ball fades out, Chantler emerges in yellow and also fades in. Then green number 92 (which represents the year I was born) makes a 360-degree turn that sits comfortably at the end of Chantler. Underneath of this, entertainment also fades in while 2 red lines rapidly make its way across the word. While all this has been happening, the camera paned half away around my IDENT. I did this by adding a new camera and putting it as 3D. Also, electronic music is played throughout which finishes of my ident. The music contains allot a base and has a low tempo, these suits my ident really well.

Before I begun making my IDENT, I produced two storyboards to get an idea of what I wanted to construct. Then, my tutor introduced us to a programme called Motion were we will be producing our animation idents. When I first tried this programme I found it fairly easy. I was able to navigate the menus easily which allowed me to get a quality final product.

If was able to improve on my ident I would change the font. This is because the font is not very attractive and lets down my animation ident. But in the other hand, the beginning of my ident looks very professional and looks like a quality bit of animation. Also, the soundtrack I composed for my animation suited really well and just finished of my animation.

To reach this final product I first opened up motion, from there I used a technique called key framing to make my animation move. I also used the circle tool to draw my circles while keeping my finger on shift to get an exact circle. I used the HUD (heads up display) to edit my circle e.g. colour, size and outer line. I also used the“add a new camera” tool which allowed me to put my animation in 3D. From this you can make 360degree turns right around your animation.
